Magna Square is now open to residents and visitors following a hugely successful summer launch event on Saturday 30 July. This marks the completion of Runnymede Borough Council’s £90m ambitious redevelopment project in the centre of Egham.

Neighbourhood-café-bar Liberto Lounge, part of Loungers Plc, is already proving popular with the local community. Whilst Budgens is open 24/7, seven days a week, providing essentials. And, in autumn, Everyman Cinema is set to open its doors at the site, with several other big names due to join the development.

Over 700 business grants were paid out, by Runnymede Borough Council, totalling £4.2 million. The grants were funded directly from Central Government and were allocated to the businesses by a two-person team at the Council throughout the pandemic.

Cllr Tom Gracey, Council Leader said: “Covid-19 was a body blow to business owners across our borough. Shops, businesses, and firms were all significantly affected whether through having to close, seeing their volume of trade fall or by furloughing staff".

The Recovery Loan Scheme, launched in April 2021 to help businesses recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic. The programme has been extended for a further two years.

The maximum amount of finance available is £2 million per business. The actual amount offered, and the terms are at the discretion of participating lenders. Loans are available through a network of accredited lenders, listed on the British Business Bank’s website.
